What's going on...

Disclaimer:  I am a long winded individual who can't keep things short...
Ok everyone, from the beginning...As of Friday February 4th at 3:30, Byron and I thought we had the best pregnancy with one healthy hearty little boy, until our world was turned upside down.  After the completion of our first internal exam at 37 weeks, baby boy's head felt funny to our midwife.  She was under the presumption that he could be breech which would describe why his head felt like a butt.  Lucky for us, ultrasound had an opening for a late appointment and off we went.  Our ultrasound tech, told us "Well your babies head is down" and then probably didn't whisper more than a peep for the next 10 minutes while she took multiple measurements of the babies head.  Then we were whisked away to meet with an MD who we had never met who sat down and told us that our little boy had Severe Hydrocephalus (water on the brain).  After mass hysteria and tears we left with many unanswered questions and sleeping pills to get us through till Monday when we could finally meet with some specialists.

My mom flew in late Friday night and Bryon's mom made it in during the Superbowl (which Byron prefers not to discuss at this time).  The weekend consisted of a rollercoaster of highs and lows but we survived.  Lucky for us, we have some friends in high places and the Bortz's called a family friend who is a fabulous pediatrician at Children's Hospital in Denver that gave us some great recommendations for pediatric neurosurgeons and High Risk OB/GYN's.  After multiple Sunday housecalls with neurosurgeons and pediatricians we made the decision to go down to Denver for some consults.

Now we are to Monday.  We had a good consult with a neurosurgeon at Children's that explained hydrocephalus and the complications with it.  There is of course the good and the bad and we really won't know any details until this little boy enters the world.  We are staying positive, strong and realistic.  The neurosurgeon got us an appointment with the High Risk OB/GYN's at University Hospital and currently, I am laying in a bed, with an IV, waiting for the results of an amniocentesis to determine how strong this little boys lungs are before we decide on when to have a C-Section.  As of now I could have him tonight or tomorrow morning as long as his lungs are strong.  The docs want everything to be in the babies favor before he is born.

Byron and I are doing well, anxious, scared but confident that we are in the right place.  We continue to ask for happy thoughts, prayers and excitement as we welcome baby Elliot Carns Straw into the world.  We will continue to update as we find out more information, thanks for hanging in there with us.

See...We really are doing OK!
